Golfer Tommy Fleetwood competes in the Olympics with a heavy heart following a tragedy in his hometown.

British golfer Tommy Fleetwood is competing in this Olympic tournament with a heavy heart, deeply affected by a tragic event in his hometown.

Fleetwood hails from Southport, England, where a stabbing attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on Monday claimed the lives of three children and left ten others injured. A 17-year-old has been charged with the murders of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, as well as multiple counts of attempted murder, according to police.

“It’s very, very difficult and very, very raw at the moment,” Fleetwood remarked after Thursday’s opening round at Le Golf National.

Fleetwood shared on Instagram that he was "absolutely heartbroken" by the news, expressing that "my heart will always be in Southport."

He revealed that his father and cousins still reside in the town.

"The majority of my family is still in Southport," Fleetwood said. "Everyone feels the impact of such a tragedy, and it's something you never expect, especially in a small town like Southport. All we can do now is move forward as best as we can and support those who have been most affected, because they are the ones who are hurting the most."
